What are Master Lists?

The term “master list” is often used in this documentation and it is important to recognize that master lists are not technically any different from “regular” lists.  The idea of a master list is that it is a large, fairly static list that is used to build more temporary lists.

A convenient example comes with food shopping.  Envision a large list of foods that one might purchase, but not on every trip to the grocery store.  The master list would contain all potentially needed foods.  From this master list, smaller, temporary lists could be built for the weekly shopping trip.  SpeedList’s copy functionality makes it easy to quickly copy items from the master list to other lists.

Typical users might have several master lists: food shopping list, packing list, regular work related tasks, etc.  Lists can be named in such a way as to identify their purpose.  For example, one can append “(Master List)” or even just “(ML)” to distinguish master lists from more dynamic or temporary lists.
